Municipal infrastructures rehabilitation program, Des Laurentides boulevard, Laval
 This project involved pre-feasibility studies, design, construction supervision and commissioning of municipal infrastructures (water mains, sewers, streetlights, traffic control, pavement, sidewalks and road signalization) along and under Boulevard des Laurentides, a major transportation artery with heavy traffic.
The project was divided in several construction lots :
- Water main, sewage, drainage, road foundations and pavement replacement (4 lots of 1km);
- Replacement of street lighting equipment (1 lot of 2 km);
- Installation of the new traffic control systems (2 lots);
- Installation of roads signs for reserved bus lane and double use lanes (2 lots);
- Laying of a polymeric pavement layer (2 lots of 2,5 km).
Unique aspects
Traffic flow along with water and sewage services were maintained throughout the project. The design of this project took into consideration the following:
- Actual and future demands for water along with hydraulic network balancing;
- Actual and future demands for storm and domestic sewers; this project preceded a major wastewater treatment project and contained some preliminary work necessary to achieve water treatment goals;
- Limited space for construction due to the fact that existing services had to be maintained during the execution of the construction works;
- Design of a reserved lane for bus traffic;
- Maintenance of stores accessibility during the works by means of a double use centre lane;
- Modification of existing private accesses in order to increase road safety;
- Implementation of an integrated traffic control system to optimize traffic flow in accordance with the boulevard’s capacity;
- The reuse of existing traffic control equipment in the execution of the works.
