Transmission lines rehabilitation, Peru

ETECEN S.A. (Empresa de Transmisiòn Electrica Centro Norte) operates a wide electric distribution network including 1,600 km of 230 kV transmission lines along the Pacific coast in Peru. The saline effect on the equipment results in fast degradation of the infrastructures such as the towers, the insulators and the cables.

Considering the importance of this transmission line in the network, the Ministry of Energy and Mines of Peru requested to carry out a study on reduction of losses and saline effects on the distribution network operated by ETECEN S.A.

This study will be preliminary to the rehabilitation of the equipment according to the proposed recommendations.

Services provided

  • Study of the harmful effects resulting from the saline contamination on the transmission lines equipment including systematic inspection of specific sections, potential alternatives comparison study, labs analyses and economic study of replacement costs.
  • Study of resistive and corona effect losses on the 220 kV transmission line including on-site measurements and insulation alternative methods.
  • Technical assistance for the training of staff on systematic inspection of towers using computers, thus reducing data processing time and allowing a historical data gathering on equipment for maintenance and follow-up purposes.
  • Technical assistance for theoretical and practical training of staff regarding losses measurements in transmission lines, including measurements precision definitions, use of equipment and results interpretations
