Garbage strewn in the open-air canals of the storm and sanitary drainage systems was causing regular flooding in the west end of Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic.

 

Dessau is a utilizing an integrated, single window service approach to implement a project in which it will completely redevelop the area by replacing the open-air canals with underground storm and sanitary drainage systems.  The project, which is being completed in EPCM (Engineering, Purchasing and Construction Management) mode, includes:

  • Supplying and installing 6.5 km of underground storm sewers;
  • Supplying and installing 12.7 km of potable water lines;
  • Supplying and installing 12 km of sanitary sewers;
  • Building the road above the storm sewers;
  • Building 1,920 housing units to relocate the population affected by the project.
