Metropolitan waste management program, Montreal

Dessau and their partners developed a draft of the Metropolitan Waste Management Master Plan (MWMMP) which was submitted for public consultation in the fall of 2003 by the Montréal Metropolitan Community (MMC).
The MWMMP will be carried out jointly by the local municipalities which form the MMC .
Services provided

An inventory of solid waste which is reused and/or recycled or eliminated in the MMC territory including treatment plant sludge;

a diagnosis of existing solid waste management practices;

elaboration and presentation of existing solid waste management practices in the MMC territory;

development of scenarios which would meet the requirements of the Québec Solid Waste Management policy (1998-2008);

the description and elaboration of the necessary services and infrastructure as well as the costs implied in the chosen management option;

Master plan for the management of water treatment sludge;
-
the elaboration of a draft solid waste management plan.
Unique aspects
The MWMMP coversLe PMGMR couvre 64 municipalities which include almost half the population of the province of Québec. Consequently, Dessau used a working method which allowed them to consider issues specific to each municipality and arrondissement of the MMC. Dessau’s draft of the MWMMP, will allow the MMC to reach the waste management objectives set by the 1998-2008 Québec Waste Management Policy by the year 2013.
