Construction of the Toulnustouc Hydroelectric Station
Client
Hydro-Québec, Northern Canada
Scope of Work
Several mandates for the design and supervision of works related to mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and control, telecommunications and environmental assessments.
The Toulnustouc hydroelectric project included a 526-MW power station, a dam, a 9.8-km headrace tunnel, and a spillway with two heated straight gates. Dessau specialists participated in the pre-project phases, the preparation of plans and specifications, the follow-up on submissions and the design, as well as the
manufacturing and installation of all the station’s systems, electrical equipment and mechanical equipment. To protect the area’s wildlife, we ensured that the river’s water levels were sufficient for fish to spawn. Wastewater treatment systems were also installed in the generating station.
Challenges
- Producing 3D models of the station (a first in the industry).
Prizes and Awards
- 2006 Quebec Consulting Engineering Grand Prize, awarded by the Quebec Association of Consulting Engineers (AICQ) in recognition of the project’s excellence.
